Meredith Stone is a Mornington Peninsula based artist who graduated from Swinburne University, School of Art and Design in 1981.
She worked in publications and design in the public and private sectors for ten years while developing her art practice. Since 1992 she has had numerous solo shows at Catanach’s Galleries as well as participating in exhibitions at Libby Edward’s Galleries, Bird’s Gallery, Brunswick Street Gallery, Woodenfern Gallery, Bes62 and Kuulmiff among others.
Her most recent solo exhibition, Domesticus, was at Easy Street Galleries in Collingwood.
This reflects the artist’s experience of having to pause her career after she become a mother where artistic expression was limited to arranging a flower in a vessel or noticing a shaft of sunlight catch a cup. She began painting everyday vignettes of fleeting beauty to represent this domestic experience.
She is interested in the history and conceptual aspects of the labour of mark making with paint as an antidote to the pace of digital technology and contemporary life. Consciously taking the time to work slowly in this way is a personal search for meaning.
“I am a colourist at heart. My response to the landscape is a visual dance celebrating the joy and expressive world of colour”
