Cathy Usatoff is a contemporary landscape painter based in Melbourne and Balnarring Beach and is inspired by the diversity of the landscapes on the Mornington Peninsular particularly the beautiful vistas of the wineries, rural paddocks and Australian coastal bush.
Her painting process is intuitive and spontaneous with colour being paramount to her expression. Working predominantly in acrylic paint she creates ideal landscapes that acknowledge the bountiful beauty of regional Victoria.
Cathy’s interpretation of the landscape lies between observed reality and translating it with an abstract language of colour and mark making. Painting mostly from memory this allows her the freedom to exaggerate colour, space and compositions that evoke an energy and a sense of place rather than recording a specific location.
